It is that type of season. Snow is here and it is here to stay for a while. With this happening your home can become very cold. You have tried everything to keep the cold out and for some reason that cold draft is still coming through your home. One thing that people really do not think about is Insulation.

What is insulation? Insulation means to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or leakage of heat, electricity, or sound. In our case we use it to prevent the leakage of heat. This process is not an easy one, but it is worth it.

Batts and blankets are the most common types of insulation.  They come in rolls and are suitable for you to do it yourself. Take the material and cut it so the material can fit around the wires, pipes, and outlets. Another good way to fix your insulation problems is the loose-fill insulation. This consists of fluffy strands of fiber blown into attics and walls with a machine. This machine will fill in the missed small spots, eliminating any leftover cold spots.

Structural Insulated Panels are very beneficial but also can be more on the expensive side. The come in the form of sheets. These are specifically good for siding or roofing because they will insulate the entire wall surface. The insulation can also be used for basement and crawl space walls.

Spray foam forms an air barrier, which can eliminate weather tasks. The insulation comes in the form of plastic. It goes on as a liquid and expands to fill the available space. This will seal all gaps which will eliminate any air leaks. Any contractor will spray this foam into frame cavities because once it is dry it will cut away leaving a flat and even space.
