How to Tell if You Need a New Roof—And Why to Do It in Summer
Protect Your Home
Without a functioning roof, homes are at risk of weather damage. In some cases, a simple roof repair can fix a leak or minor damage. However, every house eventually needs a roof replacement.
Watch for Signs of Roof Damage
There are several signs that a roof repair won’t be enough. Remember that most roofs last 20 to 25 years at most. If your home is older, it may be time for a roof replacement. Additional signs include:
- Curling. If you notice curled shingles, contact a certified professional.
- Empty valleys. If the valleys of your roof—the indented areas where water runs down into gutters—contain lost or damaged shingles, this can cause serious damage.
- Granules. When cleaning your gutters, check for shingle granules. More of this debris falls toward the end of a roof’s lifespan.
- Light. Look in the attic for daylight coming between roof boards.
Schedule Roof Replacement
If you notice any of the above signs, a roof repair probably won’t suffice. Timing is important for a roof replacement. Whenever possible, schedule new installations during summer.
When winter arrives, your roof needs to manage harsher weather. It’s important to have completed the roof replacement by then. It’s more difficult to perform these installations during inclement weather. Workers are exposed to hazards, while cold and wet conditions aren’t ideal for working with shingles.
If you’re ready for a roof replacement, call us. We’ll guide you through this project, from removal though completion. Our certified installers have years of experience and will complete the job with professionalism and skill.
